The History of Redemption in Scripture (Page 5)
Christ Reveals His Glory
Exodus 33:7-34:8 We consider another encouraging facet of the Lord’s work in the history of redemption: the many times Christ appeared to reveal something more of His glory, and the glorious work He would perform on behalf of His church in the distant future.
Apostasy and Revival
Psalm 106:34-46 This morning, we see another way the Lord preserved His people once they were in the land: through revival. Once Israel’s godly leadership died off, the people immediately fell away from the Lord.
Safety in Worship
Exodus 34:24 In this message, we will see the work of redemption advance even further. The Lord had revealed His worship to His people in the wilderness, but there were certain aspects of that worship that couldn’t be implemented until they were in the Promised Land
God’s Rest
Hebrews 4:8 We consider the conquest of Canaan by Israel and see that God raises up a leader of His people (Joshua) to defeat His enemies in Canaan – a person raised up to give the people of God rest in the land.
An Outpouring of the Spirit
Jeremiah 2:1-3 Many of the second generation Israelites saw the Messiah through faith, trusted in Him and were saved. Before the Lord brought this generation into the land, at the time He established the Jewish church, He poured His Spirit out on them.
Three Prophecies
Numbers 24:17-19; Deuteronomy 18:18-19; Deuteronomy 32:21 We consider a prophecy of Balaam and two of Moses that further revealed who the Messiah would be, but also how God’s people would react to Him.
Preservation in the Wilderness
Deuteronomy 8:1-6 We consider another miracle the Lord did to advance His work of redemption: that of His sustaining His people in the wilderness for forty years.
Our Days Have Declined
Psalm 90:9-12 We consider the shortening of man’s life expectancy and how God brought it about as a means to advance redemption.
Examples For Our Instruction
1 Corinthians 10:1-13 Paul gives another example of how the Lord revealed His Gospel to the Jews.
The First Scripture
Exodus 24:12-18,31:18 When Moses went up into the presence of the Lord on Mount Sinai, the Lord gave the first scripture written to His people. Before this, the Word had been passed down through the generations by word of mouth.
The Schoolmaster
Exodus 19:1-20:21 In a day when many churches teach that the Law of God is a bad thing that was entirely done away with in Christ and is now irrelevant for the believer, we see that nothing could be farther from the truth.
You Shall be My Possession
Exodus 19:1-6 The Exodus appears to be the time at which God confined the true religion to the nation of Israel – as we see, up to this time there were true worshipers of God outside of the nation – for example, Melchizedek, Jethro, etc.
