A Study on ‘Amen’

As we take a break from the Westminster Confession, we briefly study the word ‘Amen’ and how it should be used in worship.

The Cost of Freedom

John 8:31-36 We examine these remarkable words of Christ and consider what true freedom is – a freedom from the guilt and power of sin. We go on to contemplate the staggering price that had to be paid in order to secure the blessing of freedom for the children of God

Jesus Christ is Lord

Colossians 1:15-20 In this passage, Paul describes the Lord Jesus Christ in the most exalted and elevated of language, declaring His glory as God over all things. The focus is particularly on Jesus as Lord of creation and Jesus as Lord of salvation.

Life-Giving Hope

Colossians 1:3-8 Christ became His people’s hope when He died on the cross and rose from the dead. This is the hope of eternal life and does not disappoint. The result of having this hope is both faith and love for the children of God.

Pray to be Filled

Colossians 1:9-14 Examining Paul’s prayer for the Colossians, we discover some of the spiritual concerns that should feature in our own prayers.

A Prosperous New Year!

Joshua 1:1-9 With the New Year approaching rapidly, we consider the parallels between God’s interaction with the Israelites under Joshua and our own Church situation today. We are also commanded to fight against the enemies of God

Grace to You, and Peace

Colossians 1:1-2 The opening statement by Paul of the book of Colossians contains much more than may appear at first sight. We consider the author who introduces himself to us and the recipients he is addressing before reflecting on the twin blessings he desires for them

Elect Pilgrims

1 Peter 1:1-3 We survey the first few verses of this epistle, reminding ourselves of the author and his background, and applying the themes of his opening words to our circumstances today.

Cultivating the Fruits of the Spirit: Peace

Galatians 5:16-24 This evening, we examine another of the fruits of the Spirit – on this occasion, the fruit of peace. We consider what is meant by the peace of God (which is the peace of which Paul speaks in the text).

Christ is Your Life!

Colossians 2:20-3:6 In the letter to the Colossians Paul addresses the teachings that have recently arisen. These teachings appeal to human based wisdom and self-righteousness. They attempt to gain attention by advocating visions and rituals.

Cultivating the Fruits of the Spirit: Joy

Galatians 5:16-24 Rejoice always. In Paul’s letter to the Galatians he tells them of the fruits of the Spirit, one of which is joy. The command to rejoice extends far beyond enjoyable events and easy times in life. Christians are commanded to rejoice in trials and in death
